The National Onsite Demonstration Program (NODP), funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), demonstrated the use of alternative wastewater treatment technologies to protect public health, ensure water quality, and sustain the environment of small and rural communities. Over 25 projects demonstrated a wide range of wastewater treatment technologies in an onsite or decentralized setting to provide adequate wastewater treatment for many small communities. System management programs and stakeholder education and training were key components of each demonstration project.
